RULE 72: Simple, handy and useful.

In personal finance, if you divide the number 72 by the rate of interest, you get to know the number of years it will take for you to double the money..
Eg: if the rate of interest is 9%, simply divide the number 72 by 9% and the answer is 8. Thus it will take 8 years to double your money if you invest at 9% p.a. rate of interest.

*INTEREST:* We can use this rule in reverse to know the rate of interest needed to double your money to achieve your set goal.
Eg: If you have 2.5 lakhs today and you need 5lakh in 5 years. Just divide the number 72 by 5, the answer is 14.41%. Thus you need a type of investment avenue, where you earn at least 14.41% p.a. as rate of interest/returns to double your investment amount in 5 years.

*INFLATION:*
This 'Rule 72' helps you to understand about inflation also. It helps you to calculate the amount of time it will take for inflation to make the real value of money half. Let's say present inflation is 5.5%. When you divide 72 by 5.5% the answer is 13.09 years. That is to say, if you have 1 lakh in your kitty today, it would take around 13.09 years for the value of the money to be halved..

Beautiful letter written by a father to his son and daughter

Following is a letter to his daughter from a renowned Hong Kong TV broadcaster and Child Psychologist.
The words are actually applicable to all of us, young or old, children or parents.!
This applies to all sons & daughters too. All parents can use this in their teachings to their children.

Dear daughter,

I am writing this to you because of 3 reasons

1. Life, fortune and mishaps are unpredictable, nobody knows how long he lives. Some words are better said early.

2. I am your father, and if I don't tell you these, no one else will.

3. What is written is my own personal bitter experiences that perhaps could save you a lot of unnecessary heartaches. Remember the following as you go through life

1. Do not bear grudge towards those who are not good to you. No one has the responsibility of treating you well, except your mother and I.
To those who are good to you, you have to treasure it and be thankful, and ALSO you have to be cautious, because, everyone has a motive for every move. When a person is good to you, it does not mean he really will be good to you. You have to be careful, don't hastily regard him as a real friend.

2. No one is indispensable, nothing is in the world that you must possess.
Once you understand this idea, it would be easier for you to go through life when people around you don't want you anymore, or when you lose what you wanted the most.

3. Life is short.
When you waste your life today, tomorrow you would find that life is leaving you. The earlier you treasure your life, the better you enjoy life.

4. Love is but a transient feeling, and this feeling would fade with time and with one's mood. If your so called loved one leaves you, be patient, time will wash away your aches and sadness.
Don't over exaggerate the beauty and sweetness of love, and don't over exaggerate the sadness of falling out of love.

5.A lot of successful people did not receive a good education, that does not mean that you can be successful by not studying hard! Whatever knowledge you gain is your weapon in life.
One can go from rags to riches, but one has to start from some rags!

6.I do not expect you to financially support me when I am old, neither would I financially support your whole life. My responsibility as a supporter ends when you are grown up. After that, you decide whether you want to travel in a public transport or in your limousine, whether rich or poor.

7. You honour your words, but don't expect others to be so. You can be good to people, but don't expect people to be good to you. If you don't understand this, you would end up with unnecessary troubles.

8. I have bought lotteries for umpteen years, but I could never strike any prize. That shows if you want to be rich, you have to work hard! There is no free lunch!

9. No matter how much time I have with you, let's treasure the time we have together. We do not know if we would meet again in our next life.

Horror in a stormy night

This story is said to have happened a while ago in Brisbane, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale.

John Bradford, a Sydney University student, was on the side of the road hitch hiking on a very dark night and in the midst of a storm. The night was rolling on and no car went by. The storm was so strong he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him.

Suddenly he saw a car slowly coming towards him and stopped. John, desperate for shelter and without thinking about it, got in the car and closed the door, just to realise there was nobody behind the wheel and the Engine wasn't on!

The car started moving slowly. John looked at the road And saw a curve approaching. Scared, he started to pray, begging for his Life. Then, just before he hit the curve, a hand appeared through the window and turned the wheel. John, paralysed with terror, watched how the hand repeatedly came through the window but never harmed him.

Shortly thereafter John saw the lights of a pub down the road so, gathering strength, jumped out of the car and ran to it. Wet and out of breath, he rushed inside and started telling everybody about the horrible experience he had just experienced. A silence enveloped the pub when everybody realised he was crying and wasn't drunk.

Suddenly two other people walked into the same pub.

They, like John, were also wet and out of breath. Looking around and seeing John Bradford sobbing at the bar, one said to the other,...

"Look, Bruce ...... there's that bloody idiot that got in the car while we were pushing it."

മുഷിഞ്ഞ വസ്ത്രധാരിയായ ഒരു വൃദ്ധൻ തീവണ്ടിയിൽ ഏസി കമ്പാർട്ടുമെന്റിൽ യാത്ര ചെയ്യുകയായിരുന്നു .ടിക്കറ്റ് പരിശോധകൻ (ടി ടി ഇ ) അയാളുടെ അടുത്ത് വന്നു ടിക്കറ്റ് ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ടു. വൃദ്ധൻ തന്റെ ബാഗിനുളളിൽ തിരയാൻ തുടങ്ങി " ഇവിടെ എവിടേയോ കാണണം" വൃദ്ധൻ തിരച്ചിൽ തുടരവെ അതൃപ്തിയോടെ പരിശോധകൻ പറഞ്ഞു "ഞാൻ തിരിച്ച് വരുമ്പോൾ താങ്കൾ ടിക്കറ്റ് കാണിക്കണം". വൃദ്ധൻ ടിക്കറ്റ് ഇല്ലാതെയാണ് യാത്ര ചെയ്യുന്നതെന്ന് പരിശോധകൻ ഊഹിച്ചു. കുറച്ച് കഴിഞ്ഞ് തിരിച്ച് വന്ന പരിശോധകന് വൃദ്ധൻ തന്റെ ഏസി ക്ലാസ് ടിക്കറ്റ് കാണിച്ചു.പരിശോധകന് കുറ്റബോധം തോനി 'ഒറ്റനോട്ടത്തിൽ അയാളെ ഞാൻ വിലയിരുത്താൻ പാടില്ലായിരുന്നു'.

തീവണ്ടി സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ പുറത്തിറങ്ങുവാൻ അവനെ പരിശോധകൻ സഹായിച്ചു.തന്റെ ലഗ്ഗേജ് എടുക്കാൻ ഒരു ചുമട്ടുകാരനെ വൃദ്ധൻ വിളിച്ചു.ചുമട്ടുകാരൻ ലഗ്ഗേജ് എടുത്തെങ്കിലും പെട്ടെന്ന് അത് താഴെ വെച്ച് നടന്നു പോയി. അയാൾ അടുത്ത കമ്പാർട്ടുമെന്റിൽ വന്നിറങ്ങിയ ഭംഗിയായി വസ്ത്രം ധരിച്ച ഒരു സ്ത്രീയുടെ ലഗ്ഗേജ് എടുത്ത് അവരോടൊപ്പം നടന്നു പോയി.

' ചുമട്ടുകാരനെ കുറിച്ച് നിങ്ങൾ എന്ത് വിചാരിക്കുന്നു ..😇.?'

ഇത് കണ്ട പരിശോധകൻ വൃദ്ധന്റെ ലഗ്ഗേജ് എടുത്ത് ഒരു ടാക്സി വിളിക്കാൻ സഹായിച്ചു.പരിശോധകനോട് നന്ദി പറഞ്ഞ വൃദ്ധൻ ഒരു നൂറു രൂപാ നോട്ട് അയാളെ എൽപിച്ചു എന്നിട്ട് പറഞ്ഞു "ദയവായി ഇത് ആ ചുമട്ടുകാരന് കൊടുക്കണം. മേലിൽ ആരെയും വേഷം നോക്കി വിലയിരുത്തരുതെന്നും പറയണം".
തിരിച്ചെത്തിയ പരിശോധകൻ ചുമട്ടുകാരനെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ അയാളോട് പറഞ്ഞു "നിങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തത് ശരിയായില്ല. ഏതായാലും ഈ പണം അയാൾ നിങ്ങൾക്ക് തന്നതാണ് വേഷം നോക്കി ആരെയും വിലയിരുത്തരുതെന്ന് നിങ്ങളോട് പറയാനും പറഞ്ഞു ".

"ക്ഷമിക്കണം സാർ" ചുമട്ടുകാരൻ പറഞ്ഞു "തിരക്കിനിടയിൽ ഞാൻ പറയാൻ വിട്ടു പോയി അതൊരു അന്ധയായ സ്ത്രീയാണ്. സ്ഥിരമായി ഞാനാണ് അവരുടെ ലഗ്ഗേജ് എടുക്കാറുള്ളത് .ഞാനതിനു കൂലിയൊന്നും വാങ്ങാറുമില്ല.താങ്കൾ ആ വൃദ്ധനെ കാണാൻ ഇടയാവുകയാണെങ്കിൽ അദ്ധേഹത്തോട് പറയണം ആരേയും ഒറ്റനോട്ടത്തിൽ വിലയിരുത്തരുത് "

WET PANTS

Come with me to a third grade classroom..... There is a nine-year-old kidsitting at his desk and all of a sudden, there is a puddle between hisfeet and the front of his pants are wet. He thinks his heart is going to stop because he cannot possibly imagine how this has happened. It'snever happened before, and he knows that when the boys find out he willnever hear the end of it. When the girls find out, they'll never speak tohim again as long as he lives.The boy believes his heart is going to stop; he puts his head down and prays this prayer, "Dear God, this is an emergency! I need help now! Five minutes from now I'm dead meat."
He looks up from his prayer and here comes the teacher with a look in hereyes that says he has been discovered. As the teacher is walking toward him, a classmate named Susie is carryinga goldfish bowl that is filled with water. Susie trips in front of theteacher and inexplicably dumps the bowl of water in the boy' s lap. The boy pretends to be angry, but all the while is saying to himself, "Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Lord!"
 Now all of a sudden, instead of being the object of ridicule, the boy is the object of sympathy. The teacher rushes him downstairs and gives him gym shorts to put on while his pants dry out. All the other children areon their hands and knees cleaning up around his desk. The sympathy iswonderful. But as life would have it, the ridicule that should have beenhis has been transferred to someone else - Susie. She tries to help, but they tell her to get out. You've done enough, you Clumsy girl!"
Finally, at the end of the day, as they are waiting for the bus, the boywalks over to Susie and whispers, "You did that on purpose, didn't you?" Susie whispers back, "I wet my pants once too."
May God help us see the opportunities that are always around us to do good.. Remember.....Just going to a place of worship doesn't make you a good person any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.
Each and everyone one of us is going through tough times right now, but God is getting ready to bles s you in a way that only He can. Keep the faith.

പൂമ്പാറ്റ

ജീവശാസ്ത്ര അദ്ധ്യാപകന്‍ പൂമ്പാറ്റയുടെ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ വിവിധഘട്ടങ്ങള്‍ പഠിപ്പിക്കാനായി ഒരു കൊക്കൂണുമായി ക്ലാസ്സിലെത്തി .. ഏതാനും മണിക്കൂറിനുള്ളില്‍ പൂമ്പാറ്റ വിരിഞ്ഞു പുറത്തു വരുമെന്നും അതിനായി കാത്തിരിക്കണമെന്നും കുട്ടികളോട് പറഞ്ഞു.. കൊക്കൂണില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തുവരാനുള്ള പൂമ്പാറ്റയുടെ പരിശ്രമം കണ്ട് അതിനെ സഹായിക്കാന്‍ ഒരുങ്ങരുതെന്ന് പ്രത്യേകം താക്കീത് ചെയ്തു മാഷ്‌ പുറത്തേക്കു പോയി.
കുട്ടികള്‍ ആകാംക്ഷയോടെ കാത്തിരുന്നു.. കൊക്കൂണ്‍ മെല്ലെ അനങ്ങി തുടങ്ങി. പൂമ്പാറ്റ വളരെ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് കൊക്കൂണില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തേക്കു വരാനുള്ള ശ്രമം തുടങ്ങി. കുട്ടികളിലലൊരുവന് കുഞ്ഞു പൂമ്പാറ്റയോട് അലിവ് തോന്നി. അവന്‍ കൊക്കൂണ്‍ മെല്ലെ തുറന്നു കൊടുത്തു.. പൂമ്പാറ്റ വേഗം പുറത്തേക്കെത്തി..|
ഒറ്റക്ക് നടക്കാനോരുങ്ങിയ പൂമ്പാറ്റ പക്ഷെ ചത്തുവീണു. സങ്കടത്തോടെ നില്‍ക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികളെയാണ് തിരികെയെത്തിയ മാഷ്‌ കണ്ടത്.
കാര്യം മനസ്സിലായ അദ്ദേഹം കുട്ടികളോട് പറഞ്ഞു.. നോക്കൂ കൊക്കൂണില്‍ നിന്ന് പുറത്തു കടക്കാനുള്ള പരിശ്രമമാണ് പൂമ്പാറ്റക്ക് ഭാവിയില്‍ പറക്കാനായി ചിറകുകള്‍ക്ക് ശക്തിനല്‍കുന്നത്
കൊക്കൂണ്‍ തുറക്കാന്‍ നമ്മള്‍ സഹായിച്ചാല്‍ പിന്നെയത് ജീവിച്ചാലും പറക്കാന്‍ കഴിയില്ല.
വെളിയില്‍ വരാന്‍ സഹിക്കുന്ന പ്രയാസം പിന്നീടുള്ള ജീവിതത്തെയാണ് സഹായിക്കുന്നത് .
പൂമ്പാറ്റക്ക് മുന്നോട്ട് കുതിക്കാനുള്ള ഊര്‍ജ്ജം പകരുന്നത് വിരിഞ്ഞിറങ്ങുമ്പോഴുള്ള പ്രയാസമാണെങ്കില്‍ നമ്മുടെ കാര്യവും അങ്ങിനെതന്നെയാണ്..
പക്ഷികളുടെ ശരീരത്തില്‍ ചിറക്‌ ഒരു ഭാരമാണെങ്കിലും ആ ചിറകാണ് അവയെ പറക്കാന്‍ സഹായിക്കുന്നത് . ഭാരങ്ങളും വേദനകളും നമ്മെയും മുന്നോട്ട് തന്നെയാണ് കൊണ്ടുപോയിട്ടുള്ളത് .
സങ്കടങ്ങളാണ് ശരിയായ അനുഭവങ്ങളെന്ന് സങ്കടപ്പെട്ടവര്‍ക്കെല്ലാം അറിയാമല്ലോ. വേദന നല്‍കുന്ന ചെറിയൊരു മുറിവ് പോലും വലിയ
സന്ദേശങ്ങള്‍ നല്‍കുന്നുണ്ട്.
ജീവിതത്തിന്‍റെ ആരംഭത്തില്‍ പൂമ്പാറ്റ അനുഭവിക്കുന്ന വേദന വെറുതെയായിരുന്നില്ല. ക്രത്യമായ ഒരു പ്ലാനിംഗ് അതിനു പിന്നില്‍ ഉണ്ട് .. അതിന്‍റെ സ്രഷ്ടാവിന്‍റെതാണ് പിഴക്കാത്ത ആ പ്ലാനിംഗ്.. അങ്ങിനെയൊരു പ്ലാനിംഗ് സര്‍വ്വ സ്രഷ്ടികള്‍ക്കുമുണ്ട്,
നോക്കൂ.. മനുഷ്യരായ നമ്മള്‍ മാത്രമാണീ മനോവേദനകളില്‍ തകര്‍ന്നുപോകുന്നത്.. പലവട്ടം ഓടിയിട്ടും എലിയെ പിടിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയാത്ത സങ്കടത്തില്‍ ഒരു പൂച്ചയും ആത്മഹത്യ ചെയ്തത് നമ്മള്‍ കണ്ടിട്ടില്ല. ഇന്ന് കിട്ടിയില്ലന്കില്‍ നാളെ പിടിക്കാമെന്നെ ഉള്ളൂ ആ പൂച്ചക്ക് ..
എന്നാല്‍ ഒരു ചെറിയ തോല്‍വി പോലും സഹിക്കാനാകാതെ ജീവിതം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുത്തിയ എത്ര വാര്‍ത്തകള്‍ നാം വായിച്ചു.

Dad

One day, I was so angry, that I left home, swearing not to return, till I became a big guy. Parents, who can't even buy me a Bike, have no rights to dream to make me an Engineer. In my fit of anger, I didn't even realise that I was wearing my father's Shoes. I even stole his wallet, which had some papers, torn as well, which my mother won't seen...

While, I was rushing on foot towards the bus station, I realised some prickly pain in my foot. I also felt dampness inside the shoe. That is when I realised the shoe had a hole underneath.

There were no buses around. Not knowing what to do, I started to look in my Dad's wallet. I found a loan receipt of Rs. 40,000, which he taken from his office. A laptop bill (he had bought for me). To my utter shock, also found a letter from his manager to wear a neat looking shoes, henceforth to the office. I remembered my mother pestering him to buy a pair of new shoes, but he would convince her that his shoes would last another six months atleast.

Also, found an old scooter to a new bike, Exchange offer letter in his wallet.

I instantly remembered, that when I left home, my Dad's scooter was not there.

I started feeling weak in my legs, and felt like weeping uncontrollably!. I ran back home with my foot paining, only to find my Dad nor the scooter there. I found him at the exchange offer place.

Looking at my Dad, my grief engulfed me. I hugged him tightly and started crying loudly, said "Dad I don't need the Bike".

That is when I realised, the pain, hardship our parents go through, and the unconditional love that they give us. We should only look to seek our needs and not our unrealistic wants.

Ridiculing parents when they are alive, and longing for them when they are not around, has no meaning..

A young man, a student was taking a walk with a professor who was known for his kindness. As they went along, they saw lying in the path a pair of old shoes, which they supposed belonged to a poor man who was employed in a field close by, and who had nearly finished his day's work.

The student turned to the professor, saying: "Let us play the man a trick: we will hide his shoes, and conceal ourselves behind bushes, and wait to see his confusion when he cannot find them."

"My young friend," answered the professor, "we should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor. But you are rich and can give yourself much greater pleasure this way . Put a coin into each shoe, and We watch to see how the discovery affects him."

The student did so and they both placed themselves behind the bushes close by. The poor man soon finished his work, and came across the field to the path where he had left his coat and shoes. While putting on his coat he slipped his foot into one of his shoes; but feeling something hard, he stooped down to feel what it was, and found the coin. He was absolutely astonished . He gazed upon the coin, turned it round, and looked at it again and again. He then looked around him on all sides but no person was to be seen. He now put the money into his pocket, and proceeded to put on the other shoe; but his surprise was doubled on finding the other coin. His feelings overcame him; he fell upon his knees, looked up to heaven and uttered aloud a fervent thanksgiving thanking some unknown hand which would save his sick wife and his children who were without bread.

The student stood there deeply affected, and his eyes filled with tears.

"Now," said the professor, "are you not much better pleased than if you had played your wicked trick?"

The youth replied, "You have taught me a lesson which I will never forget. I feel now the truth of those words, which I never understood before:

'It is more blessed to give than to receive."
