Fish Story

FISH
๐Ÿ
STORY

The Japanese have always loved fresh fish

But the water close to Japan has not held many fish for decades.

So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever.

The further the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring the fish

If the return trip took more time, the fish were not fresh.

To solve this problem, fish companies installed freezers on their boats.

They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea.

Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.

However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen fish and they did not like the taste of frozen fish

The frozen fish fetched a lower price.

So, fishing companies installed fish tanks.

They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin.

After a little thrashing around, they were tired, dull, and lost their fresh-fish taste.

The fishing industry faced an impending crisis!

But today, they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan.

How did they manage...?

To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks but with a small shark

The fishl are challenged and hence are constantly on the move.

The challenge they face keeps them alive and fresh!

Have you realized that some of us are also living in a pond but most of the time tired and dull....?

Basically in our lives, sharks are new challenges to keep us active.

If you are steadily conquering
challenges, you are happy.

Your challenges keep you energized.

Don't create Success and revel in it in a state of inertia.

You have the resources, skills and abilities to make a difference.

Put a shark in your tank this year and see how far you can really go....

A good interpretation of Mahabharata

Sanjay , was finally there, Kurukshetra, the ground where the great war of Mahabharata was fought.

He wanted to make it his life's work to study and research about the epic.

He also knew that it was not possible till he went to the spot where the greatest war took place.

It was said in the texts that eighty percent of the fighting male population of the civilization was wiped out in the eighteen days of the war.

He stood on the ground, the sun overhead; it was hot, the wind hiding the far reaches of the grounds with columns of dust.

He looked around and wondered if the war really happened, if the ground beneath him had soaked all that blood, if the great Pandavas and Krishna stood where he stood.

"You will never know the truth about that!" said an aging soft voice.

Sanjay turned around to find an Old man in saffron robes appearing out of a column of dust. He had a long white beard and eyes that could settle an indignant storm.

"I know you are here to find out about the Kurukshetra war, but you cannot know about that war till you know what the real war is about." the Old man said enigmatically.

"What do you mean?"

Sanjay instantly knew that he was in the presence of someone who knew more about the war than any living person he had ever met .
"The Mahabharata is an Epic, a ballad, perhaps a reality but definitely a philosophy."

The Old man smiled luring Dev into more questions.

"Can you tell me what the philosophy is then?"

Sanjay requested.

"Sure. Here goes," began the Old man.

"The Pandavas are nothing but your five senses, sight, smell, taste, touch and sound and do you know what the Kauravas are?"
he asked narrowing his eyes.

Sanjay shook his head.

"The Kauravas are the hundred vices that attack your senses everyday but you can fight them and do you know how?"

Sanjay shook his head again.
"When Krishna rides your chariot!"
The Old man smiled brighter and Sanjay gasped at that gem of insight.

"Krishna is your inner voice ,your soul, your guiding light and if you let your life in his hands you have nothing to worry."

Sanjay was stupefied but came around quickly with another question. "Then why are Dronacharya and Bhishma fighting for the Kauravas, if they are vices?"

The Old man nodded, sadder for the question.

"It just means that as you grow up your perception of your elders change. The elders who you thought were perfect in your growing up years are not all that perfect. They have faults. And one day you will have to decide if they are for your good or your bad. Then you may also realize that you may have to fight them for the good. It is the hardest part of growing up and that is why the Geeta is important."

Sanjay slumped down on the ground, not because he was tired but because he could understand and was struck by the enormity of it all.

"What about Karna?" he whispered.

"Ah!" said the Old man. "You have saved the best for last. Karna is the brother to your senses, he is desire, he is a part of you but stands with the vices. He feels wronged and makes excuses for being the vices as your desire does all the time.

Does your desire not give you excuses to embrace vices?"

Sanjay nodded silently. He looked at the ground, consumed with a million thoughts, trying to put everything together and then when he looked up the Old man was gone.

He seemed to have disappeared in the column of dust.........

14 uses of Microwave oven no body told you.

If you have been using your microwave only for heating food, you probably don't know the multitude of uses it can be put into.

So before buying a new gadget for your kitchen, make sure you are making the optimum use of your microwave which alone can do the work of a number of expensive kitchen appliances.

- The freshness of cereals and crackers can be restored by heating them in full power for 30 seconds.

- Stale bread can be made soft and fresh again in the microwave by wrapping the bread slices with a damp kitchen towel and heating them in full power for 10-15 seconds.

- You can quickly boil the potatoes by putting them in a poly bag, sprinkling some water over them and then running them in the microwave on full power for 5-6 minutes.

- Chop off the top and bottom of onions, microwave them for 30 seconds and then peel them without shedding a single tear! And no, it does not impact their taste.

- It becomes very easy to peel garlic if you microwave it for a few seconds as the skin comes off very easily.

- You can toast nuts and almonds faster in the microwave, rather than doing the conventional way which is time consuming. Spread the nuts on a microwaveable plate, set the heat on high, and let it sit for 1 minute, stir and microwave again. Repeat this process for 4-5 minutes or till done.

- If honey or jam has crystallized, just remove the lid, place the jar in the microwave, and heat for two minutes.

- You can make clarified butter or ghee in microwave in an effortless and fuss free manner. Beat the cream in a blender. Pour it in a microwave safe glass bowl (don't use plastic even if it is microwave safe) and heat on high for 10 to 15 minutes or till the ghee separates. But be very careful as making ghee involves very high temperatures and there is always a danger of spilling over, burning and scalding.

- Place the herbs on a paper towel and microwave on high for 2-3 minutes. Your dried herbs are ready. You can also use your microwave to dry soggy foods.

- If you feel your cereals or spices are getting spoilt, just microwave them for 1-2 minutes and all lurking bugs will say goodbye.

- Microwave lemon for 20 seconds and you will be able to extract more juice.

- You can melt chocolate/jiggery/butter /cheese easily by heating them for 2 minutes.

- To get foamy milk for hot beverages, pour fresh milk about halfway in a jar. Close its lid and shake the milk until it becomes frothy. Remove the lid, place the jar in the microwave, and heat it high for 30 seconds. Pour it over your ht drink!

- It becomes easier to peel fruits like tomatoes, apricots and prunes if you microwave them for 1-2 minutes.

Life is beautiful

Father is flying a kite. His son is watching him carefully.

After some time son says "Dad. Because of the string the kite is not able to go any further higher."

Hearing this, the father smiles and breaks the string.

The kite goes higher and then shortly after that it comes and falls on the ground.

The child is very dejected and sad.

The father sits next to him and calmly explains:

"Son, in life we reach a certain level and then we feel that there are certain things that are not letting us grow any further like Home, Family, Culture etc.

We feel we want to be free from those strings which we believe are stopping us from going higher."

"But, remember son.

"That our home , family and culture are the things that will help us stay stable at the high heights
. If we try to break away from those strings our condition will be similar to the kite."we ll fall down soon..
Moral:
"Never go away from home culture, family, and relationships as they help keep us stable while you are flying high."

Life is Beautiful ๐Ÿ˜Š Stay connected.

The Real Meaning Of Peace

There once was a king who offered a,
prize to the artist who would paint,
the best picture of peace...

Many artists tried
The king looked at all the pictures.
But there were only two he really liked,
and he had to choose between them.

One picture was of a calm lake.
The lake was a perfect mirror for peaceful,
towering mountians all around it.
Overhead was a blue sky with fluffy white,
clouds, All who saw this picture thought that,
it was a perfect picture of peace,

The other picture had mountains, too
But these were rugged and bare.

Above was an angry sky, from which rain fell
and in which lightring played.

Down the side of the mountain tumble a foaming,
waterfall, This did not look peaceful ar all.

But when the king looked closely
he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing.
in a crack in the rock.
In the bush a mother bird had built her nest.
There in the midst of the rush of angry water,
sat the mother bird on her nest - in perfect peace.

Which picture do you think won the prize?
The king chose the second picture.

Do you know why ?

"Because ". explained the king, "peace does not,
mean to be in a place where there is no noise,
trouble, or hard work.

Peace means to be in the midst of all those
things and still be calm in your heart.

That is the real meaning of peace"

Why only Coconut and Banana are offered in the temples ?

Coconut and Banana are the only two fruits which are considered to be the "Sacred fruits". All other fruits are tainted fruits ( partially eaten fruits), meaning other fruits have seeds and which have the capacity to reproduce !

But in the case of coconut, if you eat coconut and throw its outer shell, nothing will grow out of it. If you want to grow a coconut tree, you have to sow the entire coconut itself.

Similarly Banana. If you eat a banana and throw its out sleeves, nothing will grow out of it. Banana tree is grown on its own when a banana plant start giving fruits.

The outer shell of coconut is the Ahamkara or ego, which one has to break. Once the ego is shed the mind will be as pure as the white tender coconut inside. The Bhavaavesha or Bhakthi will pour like the sweet water in it. The 3 eyes on the top they explain as Satwa, Raja and Tama or Past , Present and Future or Sthoola, Sukshma and Karana Sareera or body etc

Our ancestors had found this reality long ago and they had made it as a system which is till followed religiously.!
WHY ONE SHOULD VISIT TEMPLES REGULARLY...?

Here is the scientific Reason. Must read and share...

There are hundreds of temples all over India

in different size, shape and locations

but

not all of them are considered to be in the Vedic way.

Generally,

the temples are located in a place where earth's magnetic waves pass through.

In simple terms, these temples are located strategically at a place where the positive energy is abundantly available from the magnetic wave distribution of north/ south pole thrust.

Because of its location, where high magnetic values are available, the Main Idol is placed in the center,
and
also because they place a copper plate written with some Vedic scripts,
which is buried, beneath the Main Idol's placement known as "Garbhagriha"
or
Moolasthan, the copper absorbs the earth's magnetic waves and radiates to the surroundings.
Thus a person who regularly visits a temple and makes clockwise pradakshina of the Main Idol's placement, automatically receives the beamed magnetic waves which get absorbed by his body.

This is very slow and a regular visit will make him absorb more energy,
known as positive energy.

In addition, the Sanctum Sanctorum is completely enclosed on three sides.

The effect of all energies is very high in here.

The lamp that is lit radiates the heat and light energy.

The ringing of the bells and the chanting of prayers gives sound energy.

The fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor give out chemical energy.

The effect of all these energies is activated by the positive energy that comes out of the idol.

This is in addition to the north/south pole magnetic energy that is absorbed by the copper plate and utensils that are kept in the Moolasthan.

The water used for the Pooja is mixed with Cardamom, Benzoin, Holy Basil (Tulsi), Clove, etc is the "Theertham".

This water becomes more energized because it receives the positive-ness of all these energies combined.

When persons go to the temple for Deepaaraadhana, and when the doors open up, the positive energy gushes out onto the persons who are there.

The water that is sprinkled onto the people passes on the energy to all.

That is the reason why, men are not allowed to wear shirts to the temple and ladies have to wear more ornaments because it is through these jewels (metal) that positive energy is absorbed in ladies.

It is proved that Theertham is a very good blood purifier, as it is highly energized.

In addition, temples offer holy water (about three spoons).

This water is mainly a source of magneto therapy as they place the copper water vessel at the Garbhagriha.

It also contains cardamom, clove, saffron, etc to add taste and Tulsi (holy Basil) leaves are put into the water to increase its medicinal value..!

The clove essence protects one from tooth decay, the saffron & Tulsi leave essence protects one from common cold and cough, cardamom and benzoine known as Pachha Karpuram, acts as a mouth refreshing agents.

This way, one's health too is protected, by regularly visiting Temples.. !

An extract from writer Sujathaโ€™s biography. A must read.

For all parents who force their children to study. Is life just dangling in future alone??

I recently got an E-mail. It's from a worried father of two sons. He is a successful central government employee. Starting his career as a fresher and completed his whole career as a senior officer before retiring. He has two sons. Both of them well settled with their family. One is living in America, and the another one living in Australia. He is living along with his wife, in his native city, Trichy. His only problem is severe depression from loneliness. His wife is suffering from arthritis, and he has Asthma and they can't settle in colder countries with their sons. Their sons rarely visit them. Even for two years, they wouldn't visit once. Even if they do, they would stay hardly for 5days and that too, would hardly spend 5 hours with them.

My second son likes to read a lot of your books. He buys them when he visits India. If you could write an email to him, explaining our state, he might understand us. He requested. I generally don't get into other's family problem. But when he insisted, I just forwarded his mail to his son.

After a week's delay, there was response from his son. A lengthy email that made me think a lot about present education and its psychological effects. His son's mail read as, "I lived in Trichy for 22 whole years. But I don't have any bonding with my native town. For 22years, I have been with my parents. But I don't have any sweet memories of them. My father, has always planned to make me an Engineer. He even planned it right before my LKG.

Every day, he would sit along and teach lessons. After that my mother would. Studying in the school, than studying in the home, it's all the only memories of my childhood that I carry around. Even during leaves, even on summer holidays, its English Grammar and Maths Algebra. Even for festivals like Pongal, and Dewali, there's nothing for me to celebrate, just studying.

Sometimes, I would lie down and think. If I have anything to remember from my childhood. Anywhere, any happy occasion. Nothing. Atleast If I got any bad occasion, to remember. Nothing. Its just plain studying, studying, studying.

My school is worse than that. It's a private school. It is ranked best for squeezing my childhood into marks. People would stand in queues even to get admission. There were teachers to assist us the moment we enter the school and would stay with us till we leave the campus. There's no way, they would let me laugh or play. It's just study, study, study.

Even in that, study, I have nothing to amuse myself. I didn't learn anything out of the box from that education. None introduced me to novels or art. Only thing they taught me is to xerox the whole text with just my memory and write on the exam papers.

After finishing my graduation in the same way, and getting employed in America, I just figured out on my own, how happy life can be. Travelling, meeting friends, reading novels, hearing music, were all making me very happy. Our mind, just remembers the place, where it is very happy. It assumes that, that place is our native. That's, how I love the cities in America more than Trichy. Now Trichy is like a strange city to me. I can't stay for more than a day in it.

I have respect for my parents. I am grateful to them. I understand them. But I can't talk for more than half an hour with them. For 22 years, they hid this world and made me study. Nothing more I can think about them. If I am to love them, I should have understood them. I just see them as strangers.

For the 22years, I have been with them, we never had any general discussions. They only frighten me with their fears, studies, and my future. Even If I force myself to speak with them, I have nothing to talk. Even now, they frighten me with questions, like, how much I earn and what are my savings plan. They ask me not to travel, and not to buy books. They are asking me to live their life.

Now tell me, How do you expect me to talk with, when we don't even have common interests to discuss even for 1/2 hour. Even if I try artificially, I can't. How do you expect me to stay in a city that has long become strange for me. I can force myself for 5 days, for the gratitude and respect. What can I do after that." I forwarded that mail as such to his father. His father just read that mail and didn't understand a bit. Out of his own frustration, he replied, that his son is disrespectful and irresponsible. After a month, he just mailed, me saying, If I could call his son for Dewali.

Dewali is a celebration for children. Children like it a lot. When we grow up, we celebrate less and just carry the happy memories of the childhood celebrations. Your son says, he doesn't have any such memories. You have taken away all his enjoyment and colorfulness from his life. I replied. He never wrote back any mail. Life is not a struggle for securing the future. It is to make every minute memorable with colors. It is for that same reason, we have festivals and celebrations. It is what our ancestors framed for us.

Tomorrow is important, but today is more important.๐Ÿ˜Š

Seek His Feet

A small story....

Once upon a time, there lived many fishes in a pond. Everyday, they would wake up in the morning with a dread - the fisherman's net! The fisherman would be there every morning, without fail to cast his net. And without fail every morning, many fishes would get caught in it.

Some would be taken by surprise, some caught napping, some would not find any place to hide while some others, even though aware of the lurking danger, would simply find no means to escape the deadly net.

Among the fishes was one young fish that was always cheerful. It had no fear of the fisherman's net and it seemed to have mastered the art of being alive and staying lively.

All the senior fishes wondered as to what might be the secret of this little fish. How could it manage so well when their cumulative experience and wisdom were not enough to save them from the net. Unable to bear their curiosity and desperate to find a way to escape the net, all the fishes went to this little fish one evening.

"Hey little one! We have all come here to talk to you."
"Me!?" said the little fish, "What do you want to speak to me about?"
"We actually want to ask you something. Tomorrow morning, the fisherman will be back again. Are you not scared of getting caught in his net?"
"The little fish smiled, "No! I will not be caught in his net ever!"
"Share with us little one, the secret behind your confidence and success", the elders pleaded.

"Very simple", said the little fish. "When the fisherman comes to cast his net, I rush and stay at his feet. That is one place that the net can never reach, even if the fisherman wants to cast! So, I never get caught."
All the fishes simply marveled at the simplicity of the little fish's wisdom.

Point To Ponder:
Similarly when we cling to HIS feet, we can escape the net He throws at us "Maya".

MANAGEMENT LESSONS FROM A FIVE HUNDRED RUPEE NOTE

Prakash Iyer, MD, Kimberly-Clark Lever and Executive Coach from Pune shares two important management lessons he learnt from a 500-rupee note. Read on.

1. It happened some years ago but I can recall the evening like it happened just last week.
I was in an audience listening to a motivational guru.
The speaker whipped out his wallet and pulled out a five hundred-rupee note.
Holding it up, he asked, "Who wants this five hundred rupee note?"
Lots of hands went up. Including mine.
A slow chorus began to build as people began to shout "Me!" "Me!"
I began to wonder who the lucky one would be who the speaker would choose.
And I also secretly wondered -- and I am sure others did too -- why he would simply give away five hundred rupees.
Even as the shouts of "I want it" grew louder, I noticed a young woman running down the aisle.
She ran up onto the stage, went up to the speaker, and grabbed the five hundred-rupee note from his hand. "Well done, young lady," said the speaker into the microphone.
"Most of us just wait for good things to happen. That's of no use. You've got to make things happen."
The speaker's words have stayed with me ever since.

'Simply thinking about doing something is of no use'

Our lives are like that. We all see opportunities around us. We all want the good things.
But the problem is we don't take action.
We all want the five hundred rupee notes on offer. But we don't make the move. We look at it longingly.Get up, and do something about it. Don't worry about what other people might think. Take action.

2. Several years later, it was another day, another time.
And another motivational guru.
As I watched him pull out a five hundred rupee note and hold it up for all to see, I thought I knew what he was going to do next. But he just asked a simple question. "How much is this worth?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" the crowd yelled in unison.
"Right," said the speaker. He then took the note and crumpled it into a ball and asked "How much is it worth now?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" screamed the audience.
He then threw the note on the ground, stamped all over it and picked up the note and asked one more time: "And how much is it worth now?"
"Five Hundred rupees!" was the response.
"I want you to remember this," said the speaker.
"Just because someone crumples it, or stamps on it, the value of the note does not diminish.
We should all be like the five hundred rupee note..
In our lives, there will be times when we feel crushed, stamped over, beaten. But never let your self-worth diminish. Just because someone chooses to crush you -- that doesn't change your worth one bit!
Don't allow your self-worth to diminish because someone says something nasty -- or does something dirty -- to you."

'Never let your self-worth diminish.

The black dot

One day a professor entered the classroom and asked his students to prepare for a surprise test. They waited anxiously at their desks for the test to begin. The professor handed out the question paper with the text facing down as usual. Once he handed them all out, he asked his studies to turn the page and begin. To everyone's surprise, there were no questions....just a black dot in the center of the page. The professor seeing the expression on everyone's face, told them the following:

"I want you to write what you see there."

The students confused, got started on the inexplicable task.

At the end of the class, the professor took all the answer papers and started reading each one of them aloud in front of all the students. All of them with no exceptions, described the black dot, trying to explain its position in the middle of the sheet, etc. etc. etc. After all had been read, the classroom silent, the professor began to explain:

"I am not going to grade on you this, I just wanted to give you something to think about. No one wrote about the white part of the paper. Everyone focused on the black dot - and the same happens in our lives. We have a white paper to observe and enjoy but we always focus on the dark spots. Our life is a gift given to us by God with love and care and we always have reasons to celebrate - nature renewing itself everyday, our friends around us, the job that provides our livelihood, the miracles we see everyday.......

However we insist on focusing only on the dark spots - the health issues that bother us, the lack of money, the complicated relationship with a family member, the disappointment with a friend, and so on.......

The dark spots are very small compared to everything we have in our lives but they are the ones that pollute our minds.

Take your eyes away from the black spots in your life. Enjoy each one of your blessings, each moment that life gives you.

Be happy and live a life filled with LOVE !!

Why QWERTY?

Why is the keyboard layout Q-W-E-R-T-Y and not simply A-B-C-D-F? Why were computer keyboards designed in the current format not in a alphabetical order. Is there any specific reason or it's just some random convention we are following?
It hasnโ€™t been done randomly or just for fun, it has a very distinct and purposeful reason behind it.
The current format of the keyboard was devised long back in 1870โ€™s by a gentleman named Christopher Sholes for the then typewriter.
Though, it definitely was not the first format to come up, it didnโ€™t take much time to switch to this one.
Starting with lexicographic order i.e. A-B-C-D-E-F, after various trials and errors and taking hundreds of cases, Christopher Sholes gradually reached the Q-W-E-R-T-Y. It was really well received (evident from the fact that we still use it).
When the typewriter was invented, it used a metal bar to hold the character alphabets and the other end of the bar was attached to a linkage carrying a carriage with the coated ink.
When a key was struck, it would emboss its character on the paper placed beneath the carriage. However, when an operator learned to type at a great speed, a certain flaw was noticed.
When two letters were struck in quick succession, the bars of the typewriter would entangle and get jammed.
Christopher Sholes found a way out. He proposed that the letters of frequently used letter pairs should be in different rows.
For example, โ€˜C-Hโ€™, โ€˜S-Tโ€™, โ€™T-Hโ€™, โ€˜W-Hโ€™ and more.
He also formulated that to speed up the typing process, there has to be a regular alternation between two hands. So observing thousands of words, he placed the letters in way that most words would make use of both hands.
He also observed that almost every word in the dictionary carries a vowel.
According to him, the most frequently used vowel was โ€˜Aโ€™ and the most frequently used letter (non-vowel) was โ€˜Sโ€™. So he placed โ€˜Aโ€™ and โ€˜Sโ€™ together and chose to keep less common letters like โ€˜Qโ€™, โ€˜Wโ€™, โ€˜Zโ€™, โ€˜Xโ€™, โ€˜Cโ€™ around these.
This was complemented by placing fairly common letters like โ€˜Mโ€™, โ€˜Nโ€™, โ€˜Lโ€™, โ€˜Kโ€™, โ€˜Oโ€™, โ€˜Pโ€™ at right extremes to create a perfect alternation between both the hands.
All these factors tested with thousands of trials gave us the format that we still use and perhaps would be using till eternity.

How do we recognize spiritual growth?

Q. When clothes get smaller, we recognize physical growth. How do we recognize spiritual growth?

H.H Sri Sri Ravi Shankar: Very easily. It depends on how you go ahead in every situation, especially bad situations. Do you deal with the situation with courage, and peace? If so, then, that is sign of your spiritual development. The more you smile, and the more you are happy, the more you are spiritually developed.
Sometimes, in spite of doing a lot of sadhana, you get angry, and then you tend to think that you have not developed spiritually.
Don't blame yourself. Even though you get angry, it is not the same as before. Earlier your anger would remain for long, now it subsides. To other people, you look the same but if you look within, the anger comes and goes away quickly. Earlier it used to take five years, now it takes five minutes to go away. This is our experience. That is why you should not blame yourself when you get any negative sentiments. Witness the feeling and let it go. With practice, the consciousness becomes stronger.
A plant has to be watered but when it grows into a tree, it is no longer necessary. Similarly, if the inner consciousness becomes stronger, all these vikaar (distortions) get erased.
Vishranti vikar mita (Deep rest removes negativity). That is why people are jailed. They are tired of doing bad deeds, so we let them take rest. When they rest, the negative thoughts get destroyed. There is no rest deeper than meditation.๐Ÿ™

WHY ONE SHOULD VISIT TEMPLES REGULARLY?

Tribute to Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam

What I will be remembered for.. my memory of the last day with the great Kalam sir...

It has been eight hours since we last talked โ€“ sleep eludes me and memories keep flushing down, sometimes as tears. Our day, 27th July, began at 12 noon, when we took our seats in the flight to Guhawati. Dr. Kalam was 1A and I was IC. He was wearing a dark colored "Kalam suit", and I started off complimenting, "Nice color!" Little did I know this was going to be the last color I will see on him.
Long, 2.5 hours of flying in the monsoon weather. I hate turbulence, and he had mastered over them. Whenever he would see me go cold in shaking plane, he would just pull down the window pane and saw, "Now you don't see any fear!".
That was followed by another 2.5 hours of car drive to IIM Shillong. For these two legged trip of five hours we talked, discussed and debated. These were amongsthundreds of the long flights and longer drives we have been together over the last six years.
As each of them, this was as special too. Three incidents/discussions in particular will be "lasting memories of our last trip".
First, Dr. Kalam was absolutely worried about the attacks in Punjab. The loss of innocent lives left him filledwith sorrow. The topic of lecture at IIM Shillong was Creating a Livable Planet Earth. He related the incident to the topic and said, "it seems the man made forces are as big a threat to the livability of earth as pollution". We discussed on how, if this trend of violence, pollution and reckless human action continues we will forced to leave earth. "Thirty years, at this rate, maybe", he said. "You guys must do something about itโ€ฆ it is going to be your future world"
Our second discussion was more national. For the past two days, Dr. Kalam was worried that time and again Parliament, the supreme institution of democracy, was dysfunctional. He said, "I have seen two different governments in my tenure. I have seen more after that. This disruption just keeps happening. It is not right. I really need to find out a way to ensure that the parliament works on developmental politics." He then asked me to prepare a surprise assignment question for the students at IIM Shillong, which he would give them only at the end of the lecture. He wanted to them to suggest three innovative ways to make the Parliament more productive and vibrant. Then, after a while he returned on it. "But how can ask them to give solutions if I don't have any myself". For the next one hour, we thwarted options after options, who come up with his recommendation over the issue. We wanted to include this discussion in our upcoming book, Advantage India.
Third, was an experience from the beauty of his humility. We were in a convoy of 6-7 cars. Dr. Kalam and I were in the second car. Ahead us was an open gypsy with three soldiers in it. Two of them were sitting on either side and one lean guy was standing atop, holding his gun. One hour into the road journey, Dr. Kalam said, "Why is he standing? He will get tired. This is like punishment. Can you ask a wireless message to given that he may sit?" I had to convince him, he has been probably instructed to keep standing for better security. He did not relent. We tried radio messaging, that did not work. For the next 1.5 hours of the journey, he reminded me thrice to see if I can hand signal him to sit down. Finally, realizing there is little we can do โ€“ he told me, "I want to meet him and thank him". Later, when we landed in IIM Shillong, I went inquiring through security people and got hold of the standing guy. I took him inside and Dr. Kalam greeted him. He shook his hand, said thank you buddy. "Are you tired? Would you like something to eat? I am sorry you had to stand so long because of me". The young lean guard, draped in black cloth, was surprised at the treatment. He lost words, just said, "Sir, aapkeliye to 6 ghantebhikhaderahenge".
After this, we went to the lecture hall. He did not want to be late for the lecture. "Students should never be made to wait", he always said. I quickly set up his mike, briefed on final lecture and took position on the computers. As I pinned his mike, he smiled and said, "Funny guy! Are you doing well?" 'Funny guy', when said by Kalam could mean a variety of things, depending on the tone and your own assessment. It could mean, you have done well, you have messed up something, you should listen to him or just that you have been plain naรฏve or he was just being jovial. Over six years I had learnt to interpret Funny Guy like the back of my palm. This time it was the last case.
"Funny guy! Are you doing well?" he said. I smiled back, "Yes". Those were the last words he said. Two minutes into the speech, sitting behind him, I heard a long pause after completing one sentence. I looked at him, he fell down.
We picked him up. As the doctor rushed, we tried whatever we could. I will never forget the look in his three-quarter closed eyes and I held his head with one hand and tried reviving with whatever I could. His hands clenched, curled onto my finger. There was stillness on his face and those wise eyes were motionlessly radiating wisdom. He never said a word. He did not show pain, only purpose was visible.
In five minutes we were in the nearest hospital. In another few minutes the they indicated the missile man had flown away, forever. I touched his feet, one last time. Adieu old friend! Grand mentor! See you in my thoughts and meet in the next birth.
As turned back, a closet of thoughts opened.
Often he would ask me, "You are young, decide what will like to be remembered for?" I kept thinking of new impressive answers, till one day I gave up and resorted to tit-for-tat. I asked him back, "First you tell me, what will you like to be remembered for? President, Scientist, Writer, Missile man, India 2020, Target 3 billionโ€ฆ. What?" I thought I had made the question easier by giving options, but he sprang on me a surprise. "Teacher", he said.
Then something he said two weeks back when we were discussing about his missile time friends. He said, "Children need to take care of their parents. It is sad that sometimes this is not happening". He paused and said, "Two things. Elders must also do. Never leave wealth at your deathbed โ€“ that leaves a fighting family. Second, one is blessed is one can die working, standing tall without any long drawn ailing. Goodbyes should be short, really short".
Today, I look back โ€“ he took the final journey, teaching, what he always wanted to be remembered doing. And, till his final moment he was standing, working and lecturing. He left us, as a great teacher, standing tall. He leaves the world with nothing accumulated in his account but loads of wishes and love of people. He was a successful, even in his end.
Will miss all the lunches and dinners we had together, will miss all the times you surprised me with your humility and startled me with your curiosity, will miss the lessons of life you taught in action and words, will miss our struggles to race to make into flights, our trips, our long debates. You gave me dreams, you showed me dreams need to be impossible, for anything else is a compromise to my own ability. The man is gone, the mission lives on. Long live Kalam.

Your indebted student,

Srijan Pal Singh

Appreciate the effort

A young man went to seek an important position at a large printing company. He passed the initial interview and was going to meet the director for the final interview. The director saw his resume, it was excellent. And asked, '
- Have you received a scholarship for school?' The boy replied, " No '.
-' It was your father who paid for your studies? '
-' Yes.'- He replied.
-' Where does your father work? '
-' My father is a Blacksmith'
The Director asked the young to show him his hands.
The young man showed a pair of hands soft and perfect.
-' Have you ever helped your parents at their job? '
-' Never, my parents always wanted me to study and read more books. Besides, he can do the job better than me.
The director said:
-' I have got a request: When you go home today, go and wash the hands of your father and then come see me tomorrow morning.'

The young felt his chance to get the job was high.
When he returned to his house he asked his father if he would allow him to wash their hands.
His father felt strange, happy, but with mixed feelings and showed their hands to his son. The young washed his hands, little by little. It was the first time that he noticed his father's hands were wrinkled and they had so many scars. Some bruises were so painful that his skin shuddered when he touched them.
This was the first time that the young man recognized what it meant for this pair of hands to work every day to be able to pay for his study. The bruises on the hands were the price that he payed for their education, his school activities and his future.
After cleaning his father's hands the young man stood in silence and began to tidy and clean up the workshop. That night, father and son talked for a long time.

The next morning, the young man went to the office of the director.
The Director noticed the tears in the eyes of the young when He asked him: -' Can you tell me what you did and what you learned yesterday at your house?'
The boy replied: -' I washed my father's hands and when I finished I stayed and cleaned his workshop '
-' Now I know what it is to appreciate and recognize that without my parents , I would not be who I am today . By helping my father I now realize how difficult and hard it is to do something on my own. I have come to appreciate the importance and the value in helping the family.

The director said, "This is what I look for in my people. I want to hire someone who can appreciate the help of others , a person who knows the hardship of others to do things, and a person who does not put money as his only goal in life". ' You are hired '.

A child that has been coddled, Protected and usually given him what he wants, develops a mentality of " I have the right ' and will always put himself first, ignoring the efforts of their parents. If we are this type of protective parent are we really showing love or are we destroying our children?
You can give your child a big house , good food , computer classes , watch on a big screen TV . But when you're washing the floor or painting a wall , please let him experience that too.
After eating have them wash the dishes with their brothers and sisters. It is not because you have no money to hire someone to do this it's because you want to love them the right way . No matter how rich you are, you want them to understand. One day your hair will have gray hair, like the father of this young man.
The most important thing is that your child learns to appreciate the effort and to experience the difficulties and learn the ability to work with others to get things done. "

Trouble Tree

"I hired a plumber to help me repair an old farmhouse. He already had a rough and tiresome day. * a flat tire * his electric drill fault * his old car broke down. * his tiffin was spoilt * he lost his wallet * his bank was calling for loan repayments In all the tension and stress he finished my repairs. Since his car broke down, I drove him home. While I drove him home, he sat silently, but I could mark his agony and restlessness. On arriving, he invited me in to meet his family. As we walked toward the front door, he paused at a small tree, touching the tips of the branches with both hands and closed his eyes. When the door opened, he was smiling and happy. In seconds he underwent an amazing transformation. He hugged his two small children, gave his wife a kiss, laughed, and never even slightly made them feel the troubles that he had encountered that day. I was astonished and curious. Seeing my inquisitive eyes he said, "Oh, that's my Trouble Tree. My best friend. My trouble carrier for the night". He replied. "I know I can't help having troubles on the job, but one thing's for sure. Those troubles don't belong in the house with my wife and the children. So I just hang them up on the tree every night when I come home and ask God to take care of them. Then in the morning I pick them up again." He smiled and shared a secret. He said, "when I come out in the morning to pick 'em up, there aren't nearly as many as I remember hanging there the night before!!" Life may be a burden of worries, but there is a way to keep our loved ones untouched from these worries. Time will heal every wound. Whoever is tensed today, look for a tree...

3 unbelievably simple parenting ideas that work

3 unbelievably simple parenting ideas that work

1. Children need a minimum of eight touches during a day to feel connected to a parent.

If they're going through a particularly challenging time, it's a minimum of 12 a day. This doesn't have to be a big deal; it could be the straightening of a collar, a pat on the shoulder or a simple hug.

2. Each day, children need one meaningful eye-to-eye conversation with a parent.

It is especially important for babies to have that eye contact, but children of all ages need us to slow down and look them in the eyes.

3. There are nine minutes during the day that have the greatest impact on a child:

the first three minutes right after they wake up
the three minutes after they come home from school
the last three minutes of the day before they go to bed
We need to make those moments special and help our children feel loved.
These are simple, right? Nothing really earth-shattering here.

But try it.
1โƒฃ Whenever u feel like scolding or beating your child, take a deep breath, or count 1-10 and then act.
2โƒฃ Let's ask them to study their favorite subject on their own..
3โƒฃ Send them to one exam without studying at all..
4โƒฃ Remember what our kids are learning in 5th std is taught to 7th std abroad..
5โƒฃ Lets keep our kids out of unwanted competition.
6โƒฃ 80% of what kids are learning ,won't be useful to them in future..
7โƒฃ Our kids can really afford to do whatever they want to do in future .
8โƒฃ Higher degrees don't guaranty success and happiness..
9โƒฃ Not all the highly educated people do well professionally.
And not all those who do well professionally are the happiest ones..
๐Ÿ”Ÿ Kids are always in a party mood.. don't spoil their childhood. Support and let them be what they want to be. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ƒ
B
Pass this on to as many parents as u can..
And change the way we look at our kids and their future. ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜‡

The fight within us.

There are four yugas widely accepted in Hinduism. They are :
1.Satya yug
2.Treta yug (Ramayana)
3.Dwapara yug(Mahabharata)
4.Kal yug(Present)

In Satya yug, the figtht was between two worlds (Devalok & Asuralok). Asuralok being the evil, was a different WORLD.

In Treta yug, the fight was between Rama and Ravana. Both rulers from two different COUNTRIES.

In Dwapara yug, the fight was between Pandavas and Kauravas. Both good and evil from the SAME FAMILY.

Kindly note how the evil is getting closer. For example, from a DIFFERENT WORLD to a DIFFERENT COUNTRY to the SAME FAMILY.

Now, know where is the evil in Kaliyug???

It is inside us. Both GOOD AND EVIL LIVE WITHIN. The battle is within us. Who will we give victory to, our inner goodness or the evil within??

Think, identify and fight the evil...!

Family Management - Important Information

Very informative and important... Read the whole thing...

Letter written by a wife after her husband's death in an accident

"Few things I learnt after my husband's death:-

We always believe we will live forever. Bad things always happen to others.

Only when things hit us bang on your head you realise... Life is so unpredictable....

My husband was an IT guy, All technical. And I am a chartered accountant.
Awesome combination you may think.

Techie guy so everything is on his laptop. His to do list. His e-bill and his bank statements in his email. He even maintained a folder which said IMPWDS wherein he stored all login id and passwords for all his online accounts. And even his laptop had a password. Techie guy so all the passwords were alpha-numeric with a special character not an easy one to crack. Office policy said passwords needed to be changed every 30 days. So every time I accessed his laptop I would realize it's a new password again. I would simply opt for asking him 'What's the latest password instead of taking the strain to memorize it.

You may think me being a Chartered Accountant would means everything is documented and filed properly. Alas many of my chartered accountant friends would agree that the precision we follow with our office documents and papers do not flow in to day to day home life. At office you have be epitome of Reliability / Competent / Diligent etc but. At home front there is always a tomorrow.

One fine morning my hubby expired in a bike accident on his way home from office.. He was just 33. His laptop with all his data crashed. Everything on his hard disk wiped off. No folder of IMPWDS to refer back to. His mobile with all the numbers on it was smashed. But that was just the beginning. I realised I had lot to learn.

9 years married to one of the best human beings with no kids just the two of us to fall back on but now I stood all alone and lost.

Being chartered accountant helped in more ways than one but it was not enough. I needed help. His saving bank accounts, his salary bank accounts had no nominee. On his insurance his mom was the nominee and it was almost 2 years back she had expired. But this was just a start. I didn't know the password to his email account where all his e-bill came. I didn't know which expenses he paid by standing instructions.

His office front too was not easy. His department had changed recently. I didn't know his reporting boss name to start with when had he last claimed his shift allowance, his mobile reimbursement.

The house we bought with all the excitement on a loan thought with our joint salary we could afford the EMI. when the home loans guys suggested insurance on the loan, we decided the instead of paying the premium the difference in the EMI on account of the insurance could be used pay towards prepayment of the loan and get the tenure down. We never thought what we would do if we have to live on a single salary. So now there was huge EMI to look into .

I realised I was in for a long haul.

Road accident case. So everywhere I needed a Death certificate, FIR report, Post Mortem report. For everything there were forms running into pages indemnity bonds, notary, surety to stand up for you. No objections certificates from your co-heirs.

I learnt other than your house, your land, Your car, your bike are also your property. So what if you are the joint owner of the flat you don't become the owner just because your hubby is no more. So what if your hubby expired in the bike accident and you are the nominee but if the bike is in a repairable condition .you have to get the bike transferred in your name to claim the insurance. And that was again not easy. The bike or car cannot be transferred in your name without going through a set of legal documents. Getting a Succession Certificate is another battle all together.

Then came the time you realise now you have to start changing all the bills, assets in your name. Your gas connection, electricity meter, your own house, your car, your investments and all sundries. And then change all the nominations where your own investments are concerned. And again a start of a new set of paperwork.

To say I was shaken my whole life had just turned upside down was an understatement. You realise you don't have time to morn and grieve for the person with whom you spend the best years of your life. Because you are busy sorting all the paper work.

I realised then how much I took life for granted. I thought being a chartered accountant I am undergoing so many difficulties, what would have happened to someone who was house maker who wouldn't understand this legal hotchpotch.

A sweet friend then told me dear this was not an end, you have no kids, your assets will be for all who stand to claim. After my hubby's sudden death. I realised it was time I took life more seriously. I now needed to make a Will. I would have laughed if a few months back if he had asked me to make one. But now life had taken a twist.

Lessons learnt this hard way were meant to be shared. After all why should the people whom we love the most suffer after we are no more. Sorting some paperwork before we go will at least ease some of their grief.

1. Check all your nominations...
It's a usual practice to put a name (i.e in the first place if you have mentioned it) and royally forget about it. Most of us have named our parent as a nominee for investments, bank accounts opened before marriage. We have not changed the same even years after they are no longer there with us. Even your salary account usually has no nomination.. Kindly check all your Nominations.
- Bank Accounts
- Fixed Deposits, NSC
- Bank Lockers
- Demat Accounts
- Insurance (Life, Bike or Car or Property)
- Investments
- PF Pension Forms

2. Passwords..
We have passwords for practically everything. Email accounts, Bank accounts, even for the laptop you use. What happens when your next in kin cannot access any of these simply because they do not know your password... Put it down on a paper.

3. Investments.
Every year for tax purpose we do investments. Do we maintain a excel sheet about it. If so is it on the same laptop of which the password you had not shared. Where are those physical investments hard copy.

4. Will.
Make a Will. I know you will smile even I would had I not gone through all what I did. It would have made my life lot easier a lot less paperwork. I wouldn't had to provide an indemnity bond, get it notarised, ask surety to stand up, no objections certificates from others...

5. Liabilities.
When you take a loan say for your house or car. Check out on all the what if, what if I am not there tomorrow, what if I loose my job. Will the EMI still be within my range. If not get an insurance on the loan. The people left behind will not have to worry on something as basic as their own house.

My battles have just begun... But let us at least try and make few changes so that our loved ones would not suffer after we go. We do not know what will happen in the future. But as the Scout motto goes: Be prepared "

NEVER TAKE LIFE FOR GRANTED DO THINGS APPROPRIATE FOR THE ONES WHO DEPEND ON YOU WITH LOVE.

NOTE: THIS IS A REAL INCIDENT AND NOT JUST A FORWARD

Please read at least 3 times.we are spending lots of time on waste like TV serials, Movies etc. Please spare 15 Min. for your loved one.

Please forward to your friends and family.

Please share to maximum peoples.

Family management is not only cooking + cleaning + taking care of the dependents but also involves complex operational knowledge of finances...
The above message is a must for every family and its success .

Story - Stop being a glass, Become a lake.

Once an unhappy young man came to an old master and told he had a very sad life and asked for a solution.

The old Master instructed the unhappy young man to put a handful of salt in a glass of water and then to drink it.

"How does it taste?" โ€“ The Master asked. "Terrible." โ€“ spat the apprentice.

The Master chuckled and then asked the young man to take another handful of salt and put it in the lake. The two walked in silence to the nearby lake and when the apprentice swirled his handful of salt into the lake.

The old man said, "Now drink from the lake." As the water dripped down the young man's chin, the Master asked, "How does it taste?"

"Good!" โ€“ remarked the apprentice. "Do you taste the salt?" โ€“ asked the Master. "No." โ€“ said the young man.

The Master sat beside this troubled young man, took his hands, and said, "The pain of life is pure salt; no more, no less. The amount of pain in life remains the same, exactly the same. But the amount we taste the 'pain' depends on the container we put it into. So when you are in pain, the only thing you can do is to enlarge your sense of things. Stop being a glass. Become a lake."

Why We Shout In Anger

A saint who was visiting river Ganges to take bath found a group of family members on the banks, shouting in anger at each other. He turned to his disciples smiled'n asked.
'Why do people shout in anger shout at each other?'
Disciples thought for a while, one of them said,'Because we lose our calm, we shout.'
'But, why should you shout when the other person is just next to you? You can as well tell him what you have to say in a soft manner.'asked the saint
Disciples gave some other answers but none satisfied the other disciples.
Finally the saint explained, .
'When two people are angry at each other, their hearts distance a lot. To cover that distance they must shout to be able to hear each other. The angrier they are, the stronger they will have to shout to hear each other to cover that great distance.
What happens when two people fall in love? They don't shout at each other but talk softly, Because their hearts are very close. The distance between them is either nonexistent or very small...'
The saint continued,'When they love each other even more, what happens? They do not speak, only whisper'n they get even closer to each other in their love. Finally they even need not whisper, they only look at each other'n that's all. That is how close two people are when they love each other.'
He looked at his disciples and said.
'So when you argue do not let your hearts get distant, Do not say words that distance each other more, Or else there will come a day when the distance is so great that you will not find the path to return.'

A LEAP OF FAITH

Believe me ... it works!!

An excellent write up

There was once a man who got lost in the desert. The water in his flask ran out two days ago, and he was on his last legs. He knew that if he didn't get some water soon, he would surely perish. The man saw a shack ahead of him. He thought it might be a mirage or hallucination, but having no other option, he moved toward it. As he got closer he realized it was quite real, so he dragged his weary body to the door with the last of his strength.

The shack was not occupied and seemed like it had been abandoned for quite some time. The man gained entrance, hoping against hope that he might find water inside.

His heart skipped a beat when he saw what was in the shack: a water pump..It had a pipe going down through the floor, perhaps tapping a source of water deep under-ground.

He began working the pump, but no water came out. He kept at it and still nothing happened. Finally he gave up from exhaustion and frustration. He threw up his hands in despair. It looked as if he was going to die after all.

Then the man noticed a bottle in one corner of the shack. It was filled with water and corked up to prevent evaporation.

He uncorked the bottle and was about to gulp down the sweet life-giving water when he noticed a piece of paper attached to it. Handwriting on the paper read: "Use this water to start the pump. Don't forget to fill the bottle when you're done."

He had a dilemma. He could follow the instruction and pour the water into the pump, or he could ignore it and just drink the water.

What to do? If he let the water go into the pump, what assurance did he have that it would work? What if the pump malfunctioned? What if the pipe had a leak? What if the underground reservoir had long dried up?

But then... maybe the instruction was correct. Should he risk it? If it turned out to be false, he would be throwing away the last water he would ever see.

Hands trembling, he poured the water into the pump. Then he closed his eyes, said a prayer, and started working the pump.

He heard a gurgling sound, and then water came gushing out, more than he could possibly use. He luxuriated in the cool and refreshing stream. He was going to live!

After drinking his fill and feeling much better, he looked around the shack. He found a pencil and a map of the region. The map showed that he was still far away from civilization, but at least now he knew where he was and which direction to go.

He filled his flask for the journey ahead. He also filled the bottle and put the cork back in. Before leaving the shack, he added his own writing below the instruction: "Believe me, it works!"

This story is all about life. It teaches us that we must give before we can receive abundantly. More importantly, it also teaches that faith plays an important role in giving. The man did not know if his action would be rewarded, but he proceeded regardless. Without knowing what to expect, he made a leap of faith.

Water in this story represents the good things in life. Something that brings a smile to your face. It can be intangible ilm or it can represent money, love, friendship, happiness, respect, or any number of other things you value. Whatever it is that you would like to get out of life, that's water.

The water pump represents the workings of the karmic mechanism. Give it some water to work with, and it will return far more than you put in. This mechanism traces a great circle, an unbroken path that eventually comes back to its point of origin. The energy of this circulation gathers power as it moves along, so that when it finally returns, it is greatly amplified.

Perhaps you have done a good deed that no one knows about, so you assume there will not be an effect associated with this particular cause. In reality, you have but initiated the karmic mechanism in the spiritual realm. You cannot see it, but it is there all the same, and it begins gathering energy and seeking its way back to you immediately.

In general, whatever goodness you want from life, give it to others first. Give it cheerfully and willingly, without calculating your gain. Initiate the circular exchange and relax in the certain knowledge that no one ever gets shortchanged. Eventually, it WILL come back to you.

Think of planting flower seeds in a garden as a metaphor for the karmic mechanism. Each seed you plant is a process you have set into motion. You understand the principles that govern the growth of plants and you know the soil is fertile, so you know that you will see results in the fullness of time. What you do not know is exactly when or how the flowers will bloom, and that's perfectly fine.

The only thing we need is the courage to take charge and jump start the water pump.

Have a wonderful day๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
