Why Should Hindus Say “Sadgati” and Not “Rest in Peace” ?

The Hindu concept of life and death is very different from that of Abrahamic religions, which have floated the expression "Rest in Peace (RIP)." Many Abrahamic religions have the concept of only one life, and henceforth an "afterlife" or "heaven" which they label as "peace." That is why they use the expression "RIP." Why Should Hindus Say "Sadgati"? Because this is not so in Hinduism, and there is an important reason why. Without understanding this core Hindu tenet, Hindus continue to say "RIP" mindlessly, not realizing that what they are saying is in no way giving rest or peace to anyone.

Death is Just a Change of Clothes

All major Hindu sacred texts, including Bhagvad Gita, Kathopanishad, Shiva Aagamas, Puranas reiterate that as per the cosmic laws, the jiva atma or individual consciousness, cannot be destroyed. It is a reflection of the cosmic consciousness or paramatma. It is bound by karma and maya, and continues its journey from one janma to another towards final liberation – jivan mukti, living a liberated life, or moksha, emancipation from the cycle of birth and death, when it merges back into the cosmic consciousness.

The cosmic consciousness manifests as many jivas to celebrate itself – "Ekoham Bahushyam," as said in the Vedas and Upanishads. On the path, it gets deluded and forgets this, and starts having suffering. This is the bondage it needs to free itself from.

So, death is like a change of clothes for the jiva atma. It travels from one body and mind to another, and continues its journey. It has the same circumstances and resources it had in its previous life, in the next life as well.

"Just like people shed worn-out clothes and wear new ones, likewise, it casts off its worn-out body and enters a new one."
The jiva does not lose anything by leaving one body and going to the next. Its karma is also transferred from the previous body and mind to the next. Depending on how evolved the jiva was, and how dharmic a life s/he spent, the jiva going through a lot, or not any suffering while leaving the body. But this cannot be assessed by medical science as it is not equivalent to "pain" in medical terms. When the jiva is leaving one body, it goes through all the powerful experiences of that janma, once again. This decides how easy or difficult the passage would be for the jiva.

Why "Sadgati" and Not RIP?

When you say "Om Sadgati" you are praying to the divine to guide the jiva atma towards a higher consciousness in its next birth. Whatever karma can be destroyed for the jiva by performing the last rites and praying for poornatva for the jiva, it should be liberated from that. This is what "Om Sadgati" imples. This is also why Bhagavad Gita chapter 14 and Kathopanishad are chanted after someone leaves the body, so as to remind the jiva of its true nature, which is that it is divine. These texts reveal the most important truths about life and death, and the true nature of the jiva atma and paramatma. The more the jiva remembers that it is divine, the better next janma s/he can get.

One Life Theory is The Biggest Bondage

If a jiva believes that it has only one life to live, it remains stuck in that limbo for a long time. It believes it will get the best there is only by not assuming the next body, because that is what it has been told, so it does not want to assume another body at all. It does not assume the next body, and remains in a state of "preta." Hence, when you wish someone "RIP," you are basically implying that they remain stuck in this state. If you are a Hindu, this is in no way wishing someone a good passage.

Yogamaya

No one remembers the baby girl born on the same day who was interchanged with Krishna, a boy baby, to save his life. The boy's life was precious but the girl was born to sacrifice her life. Today is not only the birthday of Krishna but also of Yogamaya.

It is said that Yogmaya flew off to Heavens freeing herself from the clutches of Kansa while announcing to Kansa that his killer has been born. Scriptures do not clearly mention that she too got killed like other siblings of Krishna. However, the more knowledgeable are kindly requested to throw light on it.

Yogmaya was also an incarnation of Shakti who came to be born along with the incarnation of Lord Vishnu to keep an old promise. When Kansa caught her by her feet and hurled her to the ground, she flew towards the heaven, saying "Kansa, your killer has already taken birth. I could have also killed you but since you caught me by my feet, I take it as your expression of humility and am pardoning you".

*Krishna* was born in the darkness of the night, into the locked confines of a jail.

However, at the moment of his birth, all the guards fell asleep, the chains were broken and the barred doors gently opened.

Similarly, as soon as *Krishna* ( Chetna, Awareness ) takes birth in our hearts, all darkness ( Negativity ) fades.

All chains ( Ego, I, Me, Myself ) are broken.

And all prison doors we keep ourselves in ( Caste, Religion, Profession, Relations etc ) are opened.

And that, my friends, is the real Message And Essence of Janmashtmi.

A group of junior high students was studying the Seven Wonders of the World. At the end of the lesson, the students were asked to list what they considered to be the Seven Wonders of the World. Though there was some disagreement, the following got the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. The Taj Mahal in India
3. The Grand Canyon in Arizona
4. The Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. to touch...
2. to taste...
3. to see...
4. to hear... (She hesitated a little, and then added...)
5. to feel...
6. to laugh...
7. and to love.

The room was so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop.

Bank money reversal scam. BEEARE!!!

_When someone pays money into your account by error, that person has to report it to the bank to do the_ *REVERSAL* - _not you!_

_Yesterday I received notification on my cell phone of a deposit into my account of_ *Rs82, 000.* _I could not find out who had deposited it, there was only a reference_ *J002.*

_At midday yesterday I received a call from someone in_ *"Revenue dept"* _stating that they had erroneously deposited a_ *VAT Return* _of_ *Rs.82,000* _into my bank account,_ _Reference_ *J002* _and that they needed me to reverse this payment as it should have actually gone to another firm,_ *TLB* _Towers._

_They even faxed through to me a very official looking letter with all the information and their banking details. Last night I went into my on line banking account to do the transfer but decided to print a bank statement first. I saw that the_
*Rs.82,000* _was in my account but still_ *"uncleared".*

_Gut feelings were quite strong, so I did not reverse the amount but waited till this morning to phone my bank. They too could not identify who the deposit came from. I then asked to be transferred to the risk/fraud division and explained everything to them._

_The investigators phoned me a short while ago to let me know that this was a scam,_
1) _The bank account that I was to transfer into was a personal account with no funds in it presently._
2) _They also expect that the cheque deposited into my account may be a stolen cheque_
3) _And will bounce and they would reverse it in a few days._

_This means that I would have_ *"paid back"* _the money into someone's private account, they would have withdrawn the money, and then the cheque deposited in my account would have bounced, leaving me with_ *Rs.82,000* _less in my account._

_Please can you pass this onto everyone that you know. I have been advised that this is happening with people saying that they are from_ *TELECOM, Water* _and_ *Electricity, Municipal Corporation* _and other Departments._

*Remember in such cases, the bank has to take action, not the account holder!*

നമ്മൾ മടിയന്മാരാക്കുന്ന കുട്ടികൾ

ഏതാനും മാസങ്ങൾക്കുമുമ്പ് ഒരു സ്‌കൂളിൽ ചില പരിഷ്‌കാരങ്ങൾ വരുത്തി. അക്കൂട്ടത്തിൽ സ്‌കൂൾ ബസ്, സ്കൂളിൽ നിന്ന് 300 മീറ്റർ അകലെ നിർത്തി കുട്ടികളെ ഇറക്കാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു . അത് നടപ്പാക്കിയപ്പോൾ ചില രക്ഷകർത്താക്കൾ കലിതുള്ളി ടീച്ചറുടെ അടുത്തെത്തി . " എന്റെ കുട്ടി ഇത്രദൂരം നടക്കണോ?"
ടീച്ചർ ഉത്തരമല്ല പറഞ്ഞത് , തിരിച്ചൊരു ചോദ്യമാണ് ." 300 മീറ്റർ നടക്കാനുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം പോലും നിങ്ങൾ ആ കുട്ടിക്ക് കൊടുക്കില്ലേ ? അതിനു കഴിയില്ലെങ്കിൽ കുട്ടിയെ സ്‌കൂളിൽ നിന്ന് മാറ്റിക്കോളൂ " .
ഇന്നത്തെ പല മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെയും ചോദ്യങ്ങൾ ഇതുപോലുള്ളതാണ്. കുട്ടികളെ മേലനങ്ങാതെ വളർത്തണം. പിഞ്ചുകുട്ടികൾ പാവക്കുട്ടിയെ കൊണ്ട് നടക്കുന്നപോലെയാണ് അവർ മുതിർന്ന കുട്ടികളെ കൊണ്ട് നടക്കുന്നത് .
അവരേക്കൊണ്ട് ഒന്നും ചെയ്യിക്കാൻ പാടില്ല . പഠിക്കുക ,ഭക്ഷണം കഴിക്കുക , മൊബൈൽ നോക്കുക കൂട്ടുകാരുമായി ചാറ്റ് ചെയ്യുക. മറ്റൊന്നും അറിയേണ്ട .കുട്ടികളെ ഇങ്ങനെ 'സുഖിപ്പിച്ചു' നശിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ധാരാളം മാതാപിതാക്കളുണ്ട് .

സ്കൂൾ കുട്ടികളെ ക്യാമ്പിന് കൊണ്ടുപോകുമ്പോൾ
8 -10 കിലോമീറ്ററൊക്കെ കാട്ടിലൂടെ നടത്താറുണ്ട് .ചിലരൊക്കെ മടികാണിക്കും. വയ്യെന്ന് പറയും. ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഒരിക്കലും രണ്ടുകിലോമീറ്റർപോലും നടക്കാത്ത എത്രയോ കുട്ടികൾ .ആരാണ് ഇവരെ ജീവനുള്ള മൃതശരീരങ്ങളാക്കിയത് ? ഓരോ കാര്യങ്ങൾ ചെയ്യുമ്പോഴാണ് അവർ പഠിക്കുന്നത്. കാണാത്ത വശങ്ങൾ കാണുന്നത് . പുതിയ അറിവുകൾ കിട്ടുന്നത്.

ബാങ്കിൽ പോയി ഒരു ഫോം ഫിൽ ചെയ്യാൻ പോലും അറിയാത്ത ധാരാളം കോളേജ് കുട്ടികളുണ്ട്. പത്രം വായിക്കാത്തവരുണ്ട് . ചുരുങ്ങിയത് തൊഴിൽ - വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം പേജെങ്കിലും കുട്ടികൾക്ക് വായിച്ചുകൂടെ ? .

മുറ്റം തൂത്തുവാരാനും പാത്രം കഴുകാനും കറിക്കു കഷ്ണം അരിയാനും അമ്മിയിൽ തേങ്ങ അരക്കാനും പുല്ലരിയാനും ആവശ്യത്തിന് കിളക്കാനും മരംകയറാനും പപ്പായ പറിക്കാനും ഒക്കെ പഠിച്ചാൽ നല്ലത് . നഗരവാസികൾക്ക് ഇതിൽ പലതും ആവശ്യമില്ല . പക്ഷെ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ വേണം .

ഒരു ബൾബ് മാറ്റിയിടാൻ എത്രപേർക്കറിയാം?.
സ്റ്റൂളിൽ കയറി പൊക്കത്തുനിന്നു എന്തെങ്കിലും എടുക്കുമ്പോൾ തല്ലിയലച്ച് വീഴുന്നവരുണ്ട് . കാരണം സ്റ്റൂളിൽ നിൽക്കുമ്പോഴുള്ള ബാലൻസ് അവർക്കറിയില്ല.


ഞാൻ ഒരുപാട് കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു . മക്കൾ അങ്ങനെ കഷ്ടപ്പെടാൻ പാടില്ല ! നിരവധി മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ ഡയലോഗാണിത് .ഒരു സത്യമുണ്ട് . കഷ്ടപ്പാടുകൾ മനുഷ്യ ജന്മത്തിൽ അനുഭവിക്കണം . അച്ഛൻ അനുഭവിച്ച തരത്തിലുള്ളതല്ല മക്കൾ അനുഭവിക്കുന്നതെന്നു മാത്രം.വിഷമങ്ങളും കഷ്ടപ്പാടുകളും ഇല്ലാത്ത ഒരാളെപ്പോലും ഭൂമിയിൽ കാണാനാവില്ല. എന്താണ് കഷ്ടപ്പാട് ? കാറിൽ പോകുന്നതിനു പകരം ബസ്സിൽ പോകുന്നതോ ? ഓട്ടോയിൽ പോകുന്നതിനു പകരം നടക്കുന്നതോ?ഒരുനേരം ചിക്കൻ ഇല്ലാതെ കഞ്ഞികുടിക്കുന്നതോ? ലളിതജീവിതം നയിക്കുന്നതോ ?
ദേഹത്ത് എല്ലാ അവയവങ്ങളും ഉണ്ടെങ്കിലും സ്വന്തം കാര്യങ്ങൾ പോലും ചെയ്യാൻ കഴിയാത്തവർ ശരിക്കും വികലമായ അംഗങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളവരല്ലേ ? സ്വന്തം കാഴ്ച്ചകൾക്കപ്പുറത്തേക്കു കണ്ണുകൾ എത്താത്തിടത്തോളം കാലം നമ്മിൽ തിരുത്തലുകൾ ഉണ്ടാവില്ല.

ഒരു ബന്ധുവിന്റെ വീട്ടിൽ ചെന്നപ്പോൾ 3 വയസ്സുള്ള ഒരു കുട്ടിയെ കണ്ടു . ആ കുഞ്ഞിന് പഞ്ചസാര വേണം . അമ്മ കൊടുക്കാൻ തയ്യാറായി . പക്ഷെ മുത്തശ്ശി സമ്മതിച്ചില്ല . കുട്ടി കരഞ്ഞു വീടുപൊളിച്ചിട്ടും മുത്തശ്ശി അനങ്ങാതായപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ പതുക്കെ ഇടപെട്ടു. പക്ഷെ അവർ വഴങ്ങിയില്ല " ലോകത്ത് ഒരുകുട്ടിയും പഞ്ചസാര കിട്ടാത്തതുകൊണ്ട് കരഞ്ഞു മരിച്ചിട്ടില്ല' എന്നായിരുന്നു അവരുടെ ഉത്തരം . അവർപറയുന്നതിലും കാര്യമില്ലേ? ലോകം മുഴുവൻ കുട്ടികളുടെ(പിടി ) വാശിക്ക് നിൽക്കണമെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞാൽ കുട്ടിക്ക് വലുതായാലും സങ്കടപ്പെടാനേ നേരം കാണൂ . ഈയ്യിടെ ദുബായ് മാസികയിൽ ജപ്പാനിലെ സ്‌കൂൾ കുട്ടികളെ എഴുതിയിരുന്നു . അവിടെ സ്‌കൂളിൽ ജോലിക്കാരൊന്നുമില്ല.
ടോയ്‌ലറ്റും സ്‌കൂളുമൊക്കെ വൃത്തിയാക്കുന്നത് കുട്ടികളാണ് . അധ്യാപകരെ ബഹുമാനിച്ചും പരസ്പരം സഹായിച്ചും സഹകരിച്ചുമാണ് കുട്ടികൾ പഠിക്കുന്നത് . കുട്ടികളിൽ learning experience വളർത്താനാണിത്. ഈ മനോഭാവം ഉള്ളതുകൊണ്ടാണ് സഹകരണ മനോഭാവവും രാജ്യസ്നേഹവും അലസതയില്ലാതെ അധ്വാനിക്കാനുള്ള മനസ്സും അവർക്കുണ്ടായത് ! ഇതൊക്കെ ഇവിടെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നാലോ ? കുട്ടി വെയില് കൊള്ളുന്നതു ശിക്ഷയായി കാണുന്ന രാജ്യമാണിത് . ഇവൻ പിന്നീട് ഒരു പണിയും കിട്ടാതെ ഗൾഫിലെ 50 ഡിഗ്രി ചൂടിൽ പണിയുമ്പോൾ ?
കുട്ടികൾക്ക് സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം വേണം . പക്ഷെ അത് ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ അവൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുണ്ടോ എന്ന് നമ്മൾ ശ്രദ്ധിക്കണം ( എപ്പോളും സാധ്യമല്ലെങ്കിലും).

എല്ലാ അച്ഛന്മാരും ഒരുപോലെയല്ല , അതുപോലെ എല്ലാ മക്കളും! കാലം ചില ചിത്രങ്ങൾ വരക്കുമ്പോൾ നടന്ന ചില വഴികൾ ശരിയല്ലെന്നും സ്വന്തം കാലിൽ മക്കളെ വളർത്താൻ അല്പം കഷ്ടപ്പാടൊക്കെ കൊടുത്ത മാതാപിതാക്കളായിരുന്നു ശരിയെന്നും തിരിച്ചറിയും.
